Civil War had a particular impact on the community southeast of Madrid, especially with the battle of Jarama, an example is the imprint left in the area known as the train 40 days. Somewhat less known is that there was around the town of Campo Real a military airfield, from which the famous Soviet aircraft taking off and fly flat.

scarcely any remains of the historic airfield, which was only operation during the war, although you might have continuity in the XXI century as it was located in the same area that will occupy the future airport southeast, is located about two miles east of town next to the Valdilecha Orusco-road (M-209), was pentagonal and an area of \u200b\u200b1100 m long and 1100 wide.

Tower The airfield was dirt and had few facilities; in fact the makeshift control tower was installed in the navvies box next to the road. It had some brick shelters to protect aircraft and several underground bunkers to store ammunition and fuel. In one of the towers of the village church was set up an observatory to report any sighting enemy through a telephone hotline to the airfield.

aeroródromo Campo Real depended Barberan and Collar de Alcalá de Henares, where both used initially as a pilot training camps for Soviet aircraft acquired by the Republic so that pilots, technicians and advisers of Russian origin were housed in the town of Campo Real (according to oral sources).

The importance of increased airfield when fighting concentrated in their vicinity during the Battle of Jarama February 1937 and the Battle of Guadalajara in March of that year. He was active also during the battle of Brunete in the summer of 1937, although the stabilization of fronts in Madrid was progressively less important to be inactive in 1938 and finally abandoned by the end of the war.
During these battles the fighter jets sent by Stalin Polikarpov I-15 (popularly called flat ) and Polikarpov I-16 (nicknamed flies) took off to meet the aircraft Romeo and Fiat of Italy Mussolini, in addition to the Junkers, and Heinkel Messersmith German Condor Legion of Nazi Germany of Hitler arrived in support of the rebel faction led by General Franco.

Occasionally both the airfield and the town of Campo Leal, as the town was renamed during the Civil War, were bombed, counting one dead and several flaws, but leaving their mark on the memory and history in one of the most important and traumatic events in the history of Spain.
